/>It's hard to believe that two years have passed now. I wish everyone in the world could of had the privilege to meet this face and know him as well as i did and others. Here's a funny little story about him and I and our friend Bren at work (Ho Sum). So it comes to closing time and its my turn to stock all the beer. As I am kneeling down o take a count of what beers we need i say to myself aloud, as Bren and Mike are standing at an arms length away, " We only need one more Corona. I'm not going to get that." And Mike with his perfect timing implies so nicely, "It's because of pussies like you why we lost Nam." I begin to laugh very hard, like gut hurting hardness, and Bren who is drinking a beer himself almost has it come out of hid mouth.

This is just one of the many stories i have. There is another one where we were a little tipsy at a bar somewhere in Newport. Mike has the idea to take something out of the Animal House movie and goes up to a group of older guys and girls (mid 30s) and says, "Mind if we dance with yo dates." Even the table he said it to could not hold themselves and ended up buying us a round.

Miss you very much, keep smiling down with that smile, peace and giggles.

Por Favor

So my Travels started at this little place ^ called Peru and ended in a cold place called Chile. I was gone for a total of two weeks and felt like 20 minutes went by when i was on my plan home from Chile to Bs.As. I will say it did feel amazing to see the Pacific for the first time in months. it really is a site to see. I am not going to take it for granted anymore when I return home to CA.

This is in the middle of nowhere in Peru. This mountain was about the size of Mt. Rubidoux and I went straight down it. The hardest part was making the journey up to the peak, because the sand was so hot and i had to go barefoot. I do not remember the name of the little town this mountain was in, but i do remember no running water or electricity. I also had this platter of food that consisted of duck, some piece of a pig, and i hate to say it but i did try this little dish that came with the platter: guinea pig. I did feel sad since we did have one of those cute little furry critters for a little while running around in our house. (I did not taste well at all) The whole platter which also consisted of some vegetables and one beer cost me 11 soles which is equal to about 2.90 US. Crazy right?

These photos consist of Lima and this cool little hippie beach town called Huanchaco. ¡Lima has the worst drivers! Lima was cool but to much of a dirty run down city for except for this barrio called Barrancho, it was amazing. The beach was super cool I´m kinda bummed i don´t have any pictures of the surf it was really good. Super long lefts that would go about as far as 2-3 jetties lengths in Newport, and the locals there considered that to be ¨sectiony not lined up¨ as I called it. They said on a god day or even a decent day you could ride one wave for close to 10 minutes.

I will have a new post probably up tomorrow of Chile so hope to see ya´ll soon. Granted that I will be travelling between Peru and Chile during those weeks. Something that I am looking forward to extremely. I have two friends one in Lima, Peru and the other in Santiago, Chile where they have invited me to stay at their houses. I am pretty stoked about that, since I am traveling by myself I don´t have to join the rest of the people fighting for hostel beds and super tours. Instead both of the these dudes (Oscar-Peru and Cristian-Chile) have both decided to take the week off of work to show me around and go exploring for themselves as well. Super cool people I must mention.

Well, Mara left about an hour ago and here I am sitting in my little computer cafe. While she was here (she is the little red thing in the picture above) we managed to go out every night, went to Boca twice, a trip to the province of Tucuman, we managed to go see a soccer game, and walked the city for sometime. I also played in a soccer game the other day, I must say for never playing soccer in my life and playing against my buddies who were brought up with it, you couldn´t really tell who never played and who has played their whole life, even ask Mara if you don´t believe me.

Here is Tucuman Mara and I took a tour that involved going through the city,a rain forest, a mountain peak at about 10,000 feet, and to the high desert where an ancient Inca civilization lived 800 years ago. Tucuman very very humid almost unbearable especially with the heat. in fact worse humidity I have ever been in.

This is just after coming down the mountain that was at first a rain forest.

Here is what is left of the empire, only the current furry creatures are its cohabitants now. School is now over and I have much more time on my hands. So lately during the extremely hot and humid days we´ve been having, i tend to make my way to the park. It has been averaging 35 that is like almost a hundred, and humidity to go with it. As soon as i step out my front door I feel like somebody has just lacquered me with that humid feeling. I for one am for the humidity, i really dig it. It´s better than those hot windy dry summers i grew up with in Riverside.

Alrighty so the one on the left is this "¿art house?" I have been helping them put together art installations, and even sat in with everyone to decide which band we want to play on certain nights. Everyone there is super friendly and they always want to practice their English with me. The name of the place is Arte de 2 Corazones. It is a super sweet place with nice people. Dave came over one night and pulled out his sax rooftop style, on a very pleasingly warm night -2 in the morning, that's still night time- total good time. The makeup of the house is very hard to explain and I know this picture does not do it justice, but it´s very San Francisco style. And another funny thing is my band is playing there, not really my band, it´s Gulas I just play the cajon peruano. Still pretty cool to be able to play with folks. The picture on the right is from the rooftop of my buddy Cesars house. Hopefully you can get a good idea of just how grand this city is, the other view points you have are just the same, except when looking one direction Uruguay is waving its hand hello to you. It is unbelievable. We tend to spend a lot of time at this spot, it is very hard to leave.

Here is one of the "beaches." Its called Peru Beach, it is in the barrio of Martinez, about twenty minutes by car and no traffic. I went with my friends Carolina and Areal, and then decided to make more friends there, by the days end. Pretty fierce looking dog, but a sweetheart.

So my plans to for to the "bottom of the world" have changed. It is pretty expensive and not really cracked up to be all that cool. So Mara and I are going to Puerto Madryn instead, to watch the Orcas come into town. One really cool thing about this event is you don´t have to get on a boat. The whales come right u to the shore and try to eat some penguins or seals. At night I guess you can her them breathing you stay so close to them. I can´t wait. Then after that I am going to Chile and Peru for a 2 week stint, and eventually making it back to CA. Chau Chicos, besos y abrazos. Check out my friend sofia, amazing http://www.myspace.com/sofiaviola22

no driving for 3 months now

Here are some pictures at a club called JET. Did not like it tom much, but when going out with my Porteno buddies, I tend to get in for free with them. So it was a good time. Another nice thing about it was that it was right on the the Rio de La Plata, as you can see.

A little taste of what I saw the whole time in Cordoba during Oktuberfest. It was a ton of fun. There were people from all over the world there. Lots of tourists, but at the same time I think I meet someone from a different continent while I was there.

Here is our little cabana view, kinda looks like Hawaii right? The picture next to it is all of us and our neighbors who were kind enough to take me with them in their car the first day of the festival. I asked nicely in castalleno if I could go with them, since the cabs here for some reason would not allow for one extra person to squeeze into the car. So I nominated myself the odd-man out of our group and went to our neighbors for a ride. And as you can see by the next day we were all buds.

So that next day I was talking about, this is what we ate with our neighbors. I know that looks like a baby seal in the back of the burner, but that is just one slab of meat. The asados (or in the US BBQ) are the best. It takes a while granted because, we use wood here, but with the time waiting for the food you begin to make new friendships around the mutual idea of stuffing you face with just about every piece of the cow. It also took a while to eat even between 15 people.

Here's my buddy Mike at he entrance of the fiesta de cervezas. It was extremely hot this day around 30 Celsius. But, later that it poured on us which added its own fun to the event as well. We managed to meet people there and make a party at our little domicile as the rain continued, it was a very good time there, I must say.

Here is the sunsetting on our to the city of Cordoba. I have to take pictures of the sunsets, because the lack of them I see.

This is the job I want here. I would to do this, walk dogs for a living. This is also a little below average on the number of dogs. The most I've seen around one person is 14, but there is a rumor around school that someone counted 18.

View form our balcony with the moon. I went and saw that band Onda Vaga who I have been talking so much about, And they were super good live. They played in a tiny place which made it even better. The house music that was playing before they went on was Devendra Banhart, pretty cool. These guys love Devendra as I would later find out, as i got the chance to hangout with them one night and a few times since. Mainly, because like I said, the dudes who are my buds here kinda know a lot of people.

The next place I'm going to will be the bottom of the world, or also known as Tierra del Fuego with my friend Mara who is coming down from Newport. I also must mention I had contact with a fellow Riversidian by the name of David. Super sweet to see a familiar face on the other side of the equator.I also do have one confesion to make... I am staring to like soccer, I don't know go figure right? But, there are certain aspects that I do like now about the game.

feliz primavera

Well the computer is doing better and I have another blog up quickly. This particular blog will tell and show the story of a nice little town known as Bariloche. It sits southwest of Argentina, the border defined by the Andes mountains connecting it with Chile. This is one of the prettiest places I've been so far. Reminds me a little bit of Canada in a way: the people mellow, lots of lakes, mountains with snow, and just the whole mountain town type feeling going with it. The place supposedly is world renowned for its chocolate. Me, not being the biggest chocolate connoisseur, but will be able to tell you gladly that the chocolate was a very good. The picture above was at our hostel where I do believe I only lost 3 games in 3 days while averaging about 10-12 games a night. They do play a little different down here. If you scratch the other player gets 2 chances, and to sink the 8 ball you must put it in the pocket your last ball went into. Still a good game, and I seemed to get better with the addition of beer as the night continued.

Here we are on our way to some waterfalls and a black glacier in one of the national forests. It was a great walk and I noted a good observation about the birds. They made me realize that I was not just in the Sierra Mountains, but in a completely different Continent. I wish I could describe to you what they look like, but all you will get is size, color, and "well they kinda look like this..." Pictures are impossible as well (but, I do try). While at the glacier we could hear avalanches in different valleys it was amazing. Everyone (the group of 20 I went with) got real silent up there. It felt really nice listening to nothing, and yet it was the coolest thing you ever heard. The top of the mountain is the exact divide between Chile and Argentina.

I tried to get some live action shots of us snowboarding (I went with my friend Mallory, oddly enough shes originally from Corona), but I have seen bad things happen to ones camera in doing that particular process. The snow wasn't all the great, but yet again it was the Andes "genial." The mountain was called Cerro Caterdal, pretty big too, I say close to Mammoth. The boots, boards, and clothes we rented were... admirable?

This is the view from our hostel. But, there has been more school lately so please bare with me. Lately I have become more and more adjusted, or I guess acclimated towards the night life here. I have come to notice that a nap right around 6 at night seems to do the job in order to make out until 7 in the morning. I have conquered the buss system (kinda). I have been questioned many times by portenos on "Where does this buss go or that one over there?" And I have been happy to tell them, "Yo se." So it is pretty cool to tell people what buss number they need to get on, especially when I am the person usually saying, "Perdon," -then put the hand over the mouth to think for a second how I'm going to say the rest of my sentence- adonde....." It's nice to be forced into answering questions rather than just saying, "I don't know." Another ting I have noticed every time I watch the Angels play on the computer or at a bar they always lose. So to show my commitment I am only listening to the game via the radio while typing this little post out. (They better not get swept by the Red Sox, again.)

Here we have the sunset on our way to Igazu Falls. (I went with Kylie) I do believe the falls are considered the second largest chain of waterfalls in the world, not to sure, someone wikipedia it. Another cool thing about the falls is it borders Paraguay and Brasil as well. These photos were taken about 4 hours outside of Bs.As. we only had 14 more hours left on the buss, no biggie.-The trip after that was to Bariloche where the round trip was 40 hours, I will have photos later once the computer situation works better.- It is nice to see a sunset here. i kept keeping in mind something my brother told me while we were on the roof of Evan's house overlooking San Fransisco, "Man it's nice, I haven't seen the horizon in months." Now I know what he means. I think I've only seen the sunset cinco veces aca, little alone any form of a horizon as I have expressed the huge size this city has.

So above is what they feed you three times a day on any of the buss rides you take. It is a no bueno. And the photos that follow are our hostel, Brasil, Paraguay, a monkey, and a little taste of the falls. The birds in the opening when standing next to me came up to my belly-button. Huge! And I kid you not, I lost count at around 384, they covered this place black. I must mention how loud it is at this place. It sounds and feels like jets taking off, in a soothing way though.

The falls were to grand that I couldn't even capture them in one frame. I'll stitch them together when and if I come home. That is a Sheraton emblem, we had to take a rest and get away from the rain.

This fall was the strongest of all of them. And Kylie and I decided to take a boat trip towards it, so we thought. They actually take you underneath and we became engulfed by the water. I bought a video of our experience, so we must have juice and popcorn night at my house to watch. Jozef I'm sorry you were not able to make it here. I kept you in mind the whole time though. How could I not? When every morning Matt and I were woken up to, "guys we, we must go to Igazu."

So out and about I stumbled on this band www.myspace.com/ondavaga . Amazing. Please check! I really didn't stumble on them the were introduced to by my buddies: www.myspace.com/gulareggae and www.myspace.com/martinsus Both dudes are super nice guys. They always show me the cool things, invite me to there shows, and little jam sessions we have at Martin's bar; that he closes for us so we can have a music session. So any who hope all is well with everyone and I'll talk to you later. Alrighty so here we are at my very first futbol juegan. My roommate Arie is a huge San Lorenzo fan so I am following suit. This is at San Lorenzo stadium we were playing Argentinos Jrs. We lost 2-0 it was a pretty exciting game from my experience in watching soccer. (Lots of passing, running, and........ the occasional shot on goal.) But, let me tell you this; I thought Oakland A's fans were bad. I take that back I've never been to a game were I heard, "hijo de puta" said so many times when the referee went by. I also heard allot of other bad words, so my vocabulary of cursed words has gone up ten-fold. When I go to baseball games at home I usually know what type of language I will use by the people I'm sitting next to, i.e. children, abuelos, etc. But, here the kids are encouraged by there parents (as was I by Arie) at any chance they could to say something bad about the Argemtino Jrs. or refs. This place was crazy nobody sat down and we were in the high priced seats which is typically more mellow. Which it was compared to the hooligan side. As you can see they had huge flags probably three different ones, the same size as the one in the picture, streaming down every twenty minutes. These people played drums, brass instruments, started chants that cursed the other team and refs, threw toilette paper rolls at the opposing goalie, and they didn't sit down for a second.

So my new best buddy Cesar is a super cool dude and a friend of mine down here. The other night he called me up to see if I wanted to go see this Brazilian band play. And in my horrible castalleano I said, "yes I will go." So, he picked me up we went and saw the band (which was awesome) and we took a cab back towards our barrio. Later I followed him to a friends house and we hung out drank some wine and meet more portenos (what you call people who are from Buenos Aires) all the dudes and chicas were as cool as ice to me. So after going from house to house our group was slowly growing then we finally made it to this ska/reggae show. And the next thing I know it's me with ten portenos watching this show. I was the only person that didn't speak spanish it was awesome. I can't express how nice it is to mingle with the locals out here. Especially Cesar I can't express how cool it is to know you have a good friend even though there is a language barrier, there is no awkward silence between us, it feels like hanging out with any of my friends back home. I have become friends with all of the people I hung out with that night. And one of my professors the other day was explaining to our class, "That if you become a friend with a porteno you are a friend for life, they hold friendship very highly out here." They give me a call every time they go out and say, "Debin vamos." It is great out here. So i suggest to friends and family by a plane ticket and that's all the money you will have to spend, I'm getting this place dialed in. But, still have so much to see and do, come explore and meet people with me! One more thing: Jozef and Matt I meet the lead singer of Gotan Project while I was watching Tangoloco (infusion of tango music that covers Beatles songs) what are the chances, right?

modest and mute as a garden-wall

Okie dokie here are some pictures of an excursion I took on my day off from school. I walked passed a few gardens some ginormous parks and a zoo last Wednesday. What struck me the most was that I was always told that everybody works on Wednesdays. Not true here. I think down here Wednesdays are "take family to the park day." The days before, i.e. weekdays my routine has mainly been concentrated on school and doing some solo trips around town. But, don't let this full you I still manage to go out and have a good time with friends and what not. In fact I finally meet an Argentine dude that's way cool. He's a really good photographer and is taking me to his little gallery coming up soon. I can't mention enough how nice it is to have a male Argentine friend. So lets get into the photos. First we have a typical day on my street which is the best. Next is a picture of my bedroom window with the awesome view of our neighbors kitchen, and yes I picked out the plants and the purple lettuce. The next picture is my street yet again just a different look to the left this time. We have the best inexpensive restaurant right next door called El Buen Gourmet. The people that work there are the most kind people ever and the food is the best. My first time there I decided to introduce myself and explaining to them in my horrible castalleano that I am their new neighbor. Before I could even tell them with whom I live with they said "Oh Thor" so yeah, need I say anymore. Following suit with the order of the pictures are the weirdest cats I've ever seen, don't you think? And the last picture is from what I can come up, is a graveyard for statues. Like I said in my first post "please insert better vocab."

Now here we are on Thursday at the best museum I've ever been to. It is called Malba, full of Latin America's best artist. Here I saw original Frida Khalo, Diego Rivera, and the Colombian painter who always draws the really "fat" charactures of people, amazing. It was also full of other artists that a better art connoisseur would no about. The pictures are just of the outside. I could not take my camera in.

Now it is Friday and we are in the little river town know as Tigre. It is beautiful here just a bunch of intersecting rivers forming islands between them. We took a train from Belgrano (where my school is) for 1,10 pesos there and back and it was about 60 miles away. What a deal right? Money seems to go the furthest with transportation, food, beer, wine, and the other stuff we drink. So in the photo to introduce this section we have Aldo, the Brazilian from Miami now residing in Argentina, next is the lovely Canadians, Tara and Kylie. The next photo is us riverside on the steps just hanging. It was really hard to leave those steps, with the view, the laughter of all the kids chasing the pigeons and just being with great company. The best smoothie ever, real fruit cut right in front of you. Blows all those chain and coffee shop smoothies out of the water. The sign is very funny just read. Tigre is also known for its churros and they are very good to let you know.
Okay so I must emphasize these two awesome spirits. These girls (Tara on the left and Kylie on the right) are zen masters and don't even know it. -Which is the way people of that kind tend to role; modest, humble, and kinder than kind.- These girls everyone in the world should have to be obligated to meet in order to grasp how friendly the world really is. So let me share on how they made the day feel for me. Examples: they make the sun brighter, the scenery more clear, make all the sounds you hear sound like music, and make you smile with teeth you didn't even know you had. I could go on forever talking about these two, but I will stop here. So if you ever see them say hi and you'll completely understand what I mean. And to top it off they are amazing salsa dancers!

Now we are on Sunday a day after my bros birthday -dd happy bday- We are at the FERIA De MATADEROS, this is in the barrio of Nuevo Chicago one of the oldest slaughterhouse places that is still in running condition in the world. That was not our main attraction though, the little get together was a gaucho festival and a cultural showcase for Argentina and surrounding countries. It involved the most dancing I've ever seen in the middle of the streets, the best music I've heard so far, and some really good food. Above are just some kids doing there thing in the park, next is some men that will blow you way with their dance moves. An authentic gaucho, Maria Elena hanging with the cutest lama ever. And the last is what was typically heard and seen around every corner or start of a new street.

Buenos Aires has been bery bery good to me. I can finally say that I have a home now. Yesterday, after three weeks of living through my suitcase I was finally able to see what I packed for the next five months.-It's hard to believe I've already been here for three weeks. I feel like I'm coming down with reverse home sickness, if that makes any sense.- So what I forgot luggage wise.... towels! (You were right mom should of brought more than just a beach towel.) I can not stress enough how good it feels to get out of my suitcase. A similar feeling to it would be: getting a knot rubbed out of your back by a Japanese masseuse. Awww so good, right? My symptoms of a runny nose when I'm awake and stuffy nose when i dream, and soar throat are slowly going away finally. The pictures above are as follows, left to right and then down accordingly: Thor in his equipo de San Lorenzo hat, my awesome bedroom that could hold at least 15 Shaq's comfortably, trying to get my visa situation all squared away, we had some friends come over that I go to CSULB with, and the view from our little back balcony.

If you couldn't tell the first picture of this section, that is a horse and a big one as well. So on Thursday my friend Carolina said she had a surprise for me. And as the pictures portray we did some riding of the horses. Being my first time ever on a horse, I think the self portrait picture kinda shows how I felt about doing this. Of course, Carolina was awesome on the caballo running, jumping, etc.. Me, lets just say all the horse heard come out of my mouth was, "traaaaaanquilo, and alto por favor." But, let me tell you it was super fun. Argentina I must add has some gorgeous horses. Matt, they were even prettier than the ones we saw on the side of the rode coming from the airport to BA.

My school. When going by this school and all the other universities here, you feel like your looking at a First American Title building. It is a huge 20 story building that oversees the greater Buenos Aires region. As you can tell the weather was not so good to show you the whole city. And even if it was good, this city is so big you would probably only see about 16-17% of it. The white building I took a picture of is directly across the street from school. It is the Australian Embassy, but from 1928-1932 (I think. I'll have to look at the plaque again.) Albert Einstein lived there...pretty cool maybe that's why this school is ranked in the top 50 schools in the world, ahead of Stanford!

from dirt comes butterflies

So today is my first day in my new place. -Granted i am sleeping on the couch for the next week- So it finally feels good to let my hair down and turn my nervous frown (on finding a place) upside down. Still living through my suitcase though; collectively it will be three weeks of doing so. I am starting this blog where Matt (he's the one jumping in front of the solar flower in Recoleta)left off at http://www.jamcult.com/. So from his awesomeness as a blogger and the many talks from my brother to start up my own blog, these factors were the origin of this and many more posts to come. And two other main factors: 1.) The fact that I am in Argentina by myself and 2.) with the help of my new roommate Dena to help with the photo and hopefully video situation. There are a few things you should no about me when reading my posts, even if we have a close relationship or not. This blog will be filled with tons of grammatical and spelling errors, so feel free to correct. And the use of utter horrible and/or lack there of good vocabulary, so feel free to insert any better words. Enjoy and leave in comments in the "solution box."

So like I said I am by myself Matt was the first one of us to go back for summertime in the states. So that left Joe and I two full days of our brand new friendship to spend together. (If need introductions to the people traveling with me at the start, please view Matt's blog, i believe there under "primera dia." So we visited Mendoza the wine region of Argentina. It was 1200 miles rounds trip. so that made it a 23 hour bus ride for where we only spent 12 hours there. We rented bikes (not scooters) cruised a 12km stretch of beautiful Mendoza and indulged in chocolate, wine, and the dreaded absinthe.

Above on the right is the guard dog of this lovely vineyard her name is Whisky.

Okay. From left to right Yalda- the girl whose room I will be taking over for she is super sweet and super nice. Ariel- super funny and the most and caring dude ever (he is the only Argentine in the house). Me-insert your own thoughts if you will. Kat- Yalda's cousin on a nice week vacation- ditto Yalda's remarks, except the whole taking over her room. Dena-my new best bud we hangout all the time and you will hear and see more of her. And front and center the smartest and friendliest dog ever Thor. The next picture is my roommates and I at a little Birthday Bash: Dena and Ariel rooftop style in Palermo. And the final picture of this category was taken around 3:30 in the morning, right when the cake came out to basically get the party and dancing started. The birthday girls name is Cynthia(F.Y.I.).

These groups of photos show just a little bit of our 3 bedroom apartment with 1 bath sweet little balcony.
